homemade almond milk 4 ways | vanilla + strawberry + chocolate + turmeric
you guys, i have officially been failing at life as of late. between juggling a big reno, freelancing jobs, at home editing sessions, and just life in general i feel as though my head is spinning around and around and around and my juggled balls are falling! this post was supposed to be up last week {or maybe it was even the week before that, I don't even know the date or what day of the week it is right now} but alas life has been in the way and blogging has had to take a bit of a back seat.
i can't pop in here for too long today because of the above reasons, i just so so so badly wanted to get these delicious, beautiful and nutritious almond milks out to you because they are so good and i know you guys have been waiting for them! they are worth the wait trust me, i have no doubts whatsoever that you guys won't love them and you can have some fun family time this year milking some nuts!
almond milk, mylk? however you want to spell it is ridiculously easy to make...all you need is almonds, a good blender and a nut milking bag {an old thin t-shirt or cheesecloth will work just as good too} and you are off to the nut milking races.
i am sharing 4 different flavour combinations with you below, but feel free to get a little crazy and make your own up. the base is pretty similar for them all with just a couple of changes to make the different flavours. but say you don't want strawberry milk, switch out the strawberries for another berry, like raspberry or blackberry or maybe even mango or peaches! try cardamom in the turmeric version instead of cinnamon, or skip the vanilla and dates in the vanilla milk and then you have a plain version that you can add to savoury sauces to make them dairy free {aka almond milk fettuccine anyone?!}.
you have tons of options with the below recipes, you can also play around with the water ratio to get a thicker or thinner milk. and if you are up for it you can try out my 3 day juicing cleanse here, add in some almonds milks with it to have a little heavier drink {the thickness helps you feel a bit fuller than just the juices do, which makes the cleanse a little easier but still just as good for you especially with the addition of the turmeric milk version, because hello turmeric is the spice of a healthy life {i just made that up, but pretty sure it is sent from heaven, that and garlic, that shit fixes all ailments!}}.
i hope you enjoy them as much as we do (pauls fave happens to be the turmeric, mine too, well it is tied with the strawberry!}.
i promise soon enough to be back here on a regular schedule, it might be in a couple of weeks but i will be back and better than ever! i also promise to do a whole house before and after for you guys, and all of the reno ups and downs that we have gone through! i am actually so excited to share the real behind the scenes of a reno, the fights, the laughter, the anxiety, the tears of happienss, we've had it all! until then enjoy the milks? mylks? xx

turmeric almond milk
1 cup soaked almonds
3 cups filtered water
1/2 sea salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground turmeric
3 knobs fresh turmeric
1 inch fresh ginger
2 dates
{if you can't find fresh turmeric you can use 2 tbsp of ground turmeric}
vanilla almond milk
1 cup soaked almonds
3 cups filtered water
1/2 tsp sea salt
2 fresh dates
1 tsp vanilla
{skip the vanilla & dates to make plain unsweetened almond milk}
strawberry almond milk
1 cup soaked almonds
4 cups filtered water
2 cups hulled strawberries (fresh or *frozen)
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp maple syrup
*if you are using frozen strawberries let them defrost overnight then pour them and the juices into the almond milk
directions
soak the almonds overnight in cold water.
once the almonds have had time to soak, place all of the ingredients in a high speed blender {i use a vitamix} and blend up for 2 minutes. pour the milk into a nut milking bag, a bowl covered with a make shift cheesecloth bag or into a make shift old t-shirt bag {pour the milk into the cheesecloth or t-shirt and gather up the sides so that it does not spill out} and squeeze squeeze squeeze! "milk" the almonds until you can't squeeze anymore milk out. store the milk in the fridge and drink away! you can drink them warmed up to if you like.
